Panasonic is holding a two day convention in London, starting today, and it has just announced some new products including the tasty looking all-weather HX-WA10 camcorder.
The WA10 is a pistol-grip camcorder which Panasonic claim can be used in water to a depth of three metres for up to an hour. The WA10 is capable of recording Full HD video with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 with thanks to something called Backside Illumination (BSI) sensor technology, which has improved the sensitivity of the CMOS sensor, making it possible to shoot images with high-resolution Full-HD quality even in dimly lit areas. Panasonic is aiming this squarely at the outdoors market stating: “Full-HD video can also be captured in all kinds of year-round outdoor conditions, not only in the rain or while swimming in a pool or the ocean, but also during marine sports such as snorkelling and surfing, and winter sports like skiing and snowboarding.”
The pistol grip camcorder features a 2.7in TFT LCD screen, can shoot 16-megapixel still images and with separate video and photo buttons there should be no more mixing up modes – though three metres under water that might be the least of your worries. Along with the WA10 Panasonic will be releasing the DC10 and DC1 camcorders. Details on these two seem a little scare at the moment but the DC10 seems like an indoor version of the WA10 while its little brother the DC1 has been reduced to 14 megapixels but with its screen boosted to 3in.
No release dates for the camcorders have been announced yet, nor has pricing but as the convention continues in London we will bring you more news as we get it.
